Click Here To Learn How to Catch A Fish "T H I S B I G" on Lake NormanFishin' with Capt. Gus! - Slogans on T-Shirts, Caps and Wall Plaques

November 5, 2006

Fishermen love to convey their thoughts. I often jot them down to share with others. Below are the latest additions to my growing collection.

The first one is very sad. "BORN TO FISH; FORCED TO WORK." Later, I saw one with a different point of view, "WORK IS FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW HOW TO FISH!"

The next one gives some insight into how difficult the sport really is. "FISHING - IF IT WERE EASY, IT WOULD BE CALLED CATCHING."

Two brothers and Dad were on my boat the other day. Both boys were wearing T-Shirts under their life preservers. One read, "I CATCH BIGGER FISH THAN MY DAD!" The other, "I'M NOT BRAGGING, I JUST FISH GOOD." Both kids out fished Dad, four to one!

On a recent trip to Cherokee, NC, I saw a tacky souvenir plaque in a gift shop. It was trimmed with spears, arrows and tomahawks, but the message was good. "VEGETARIAN - AN OLD INDIAN WORD FOR A BAD FISHERMAN."

Another would make a great present for someone who doesn't catch many fish. "THE ETERNAL OPTIMIST FISHES FROM A BOAT WITH AN EXTRA LARGE LIVE WELL."

The world's shortest fairy tale, or maybe another fishing lie read, "ONCE UPON A TIME, A BOY ASKED A GIRL TO MARRY HIM. SHE SAID, ‘NO' AND HE FISHED HAPPILY EVER AFTER.'"

With the upcoming winter holidays, you might want to somehow convey the message that, "COMPANY, LIKE FISH, STINKS AFTER THREE DAYS."

And last but not least, a personal favorite. "I GAVE UP FISHING ONCE. IT WAS THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE."

Upcoming Events:

The Lake Norman Marine Commission's monthly meeting will be at the Cornelius Town Hall on Monday, November 13, 2006 at 7:00 p.m.

The Lake Norman Striper Swipers will meet at Midway Marina on Tuesday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m.

The Hot Spots of the week for stripers and bass are humps and points in ten to twenty feet of water at the lower end of the lake. Surface feeding action is at daylight and dusk around channel markers in Davidson and Reeds Creeks. The lake level is 2.8' below full pond and the water surface temperature is in the sixties.

Tips from Capt. Gus! Rainbow and golden trout are easy to keep alive and make excellent striper baits during the winter months. Both are available at area tackle shops from November until mid-March.
